A process for preparing branched chain fatty acids or alkyl esters thereof comprising at least a step wherein unsaturated fatty acids having 10 to 25 carbon atoms, alkyl esters thereof or mixtures thereof are subjected to skeletal isomerization reaction in the presence of water or a lower alcohol having 1 to 3 carbon atoms at a temperature of 150 to 350C using a zeolite as a catalyst, said zeolite having ais defined as a fuel comprised of monoalkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats, either in pure form or mixed in any combination with petroleum based diesel fuel and is a replacement for diesel No. 1& No. 2 mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids

Biodiesel is a monoalkyl ester of longchain fatty acid produced through the transesterification reaction of triglycerides with an alcohol of short chain and commonly in the presence of a catalyst. The main sources of triglycerides for biodiesel production are vegetable oils (edible and inedible), animal fats, used cooking oils, and algae.

Biodiesel is defined as monoalkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats which can form to ASTM D6751 or EN specifications for use in diesel engines. Bio Diesel refers to the pure fuel before blending with diesel fuel.

Esters are often made from carboxylic acids, are are easily saponified back to conjugate bases of carboxylic acids. Youll see more about saponification if you read about difficulties in biodiesel production. Long chain means that the chain of Cs in your alkyl group is long.

Biodiesel, n a fuel comprised of monoalkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats, designated B100, and meeting the requirements of ASTM D 6751. Biodiesel Blend, n a blend of biodiesel fuel meeting ASTM D 6751 with petroleumbased diesel fuel, designated BXX, where XX represents the volume percentage of biodiesel fuel in the blend.
